Algotec Debuts Web Tools,
Focuses on Communications Beyond the Enterprise at RSNA

Chicago, IL, November 25--Advanced Web-based image management, sophisticated communications beyond the radiology department and new integrated primary reading tools highlight enhancements to Algotec, Inc’s Imaginet product line introduced today at the annual meeting of the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago.

New at RSNA is version 4 of MediSurf, Algotec’s advanced Web-based Picture Archiving Systems (PACS) access engine.  With the introduction of MediSurf in 1996, Algotec was the first company to receive FDA approval for Web-based PACS. Making MediSurf a full-featured radiology reading environment, new MediSurf 4.0 now includes fully integrated workflow tools, with configurable worklists and worklist management.  It also supports single- and dual-head high-resolution display configurations using a standard Web browser.

“With MediSurf 4.0, a standard PC with a high resolution monitor becomes a full-featured primary reading station, making this a highly cost-effective radiology reading platform, especially for low-volume facilities,” comments Kobi Margolin, Algotec vice president of marketing. “The advantages of Web-based PACS are numerous including streamlined integration with other hospital information systems, scaleability and advanced communications beyond radiology.”

Also new is MediPrime version 2.0, which now integrates advanced 3-D image post-processing into the primary reading process.  With multi-planar reformatting (MPR) and other similar techniques as part of the primary reading process, the new workstation is especially well equipped for high-volume, multi-detector CT and high-resolution MRI scanners.

“Algotec entered the medical imaging market in 1993 as a provider of 3D image processing applications,” said Margolin.  “Today, we offer processing that is not only fast and user friendly, but also integrates tightly into department and enterprise-wide workflow.  We are even beginning to introduce 3D processing for distribution beyond the radiology department.”

Also showcased at RSNA are upgrades to Med-e-Mail and CD-Surf, both important tools for image distribution throughout the enterprise and medical community.  Med-e-Mail automatically combines radiology reports with thumbnails of key images and e-mails them to referring physicians and others over the Internet.  Report generation is fully integrated into workflow.  Documents are made available to referring doctors within seconds of completion.

As an alternative, CD-Surf is available to automatically store these reports, as well as complete studies, to self-playing CD-ROMs, representing a significant cost savings over film storage. Multiple copies easily can be generated for distribution to different physicians or the patients themselves.
