Christus Schumpert Selects Algotec for Major Remote Image Communications SystemAlgotec Systems, Inc. (Duluth, Ga.), the innovative PACS and radiology image management and processing company, has been selected by Christus Schumpert Health System (Shreveport, La.), the major healthcare provider in Northern Louisiana, to provide a comprehensive Web-based teleradiology and remote image communications system. Linking the main campus and several remote hospital locations, the Algotec system was chosen following an in-depth search of a range of major vendors. “Algotec provided a full-featured Web-based system at an extremely affordable price,” says Aimen Kumha, radiology director for Christus Schumpert. “As a technologically advanced facility, we have been involved in teleradiology for over 12 years. When we decided to move to an open Web-based image communications system, we knew what we wanted. Of all the vendors considered, Algotec was the best fit.” In particular, the company demonstrated an extremely open system with advanced push and pull features. Also impressive to the hospital was the direct involvement of Algotec staff at all levels--from engineers and programmers to highly informed sales consultants--in the sales process and implementation of the project. The technology provides access to radiology exams at Christus Schumpert’s two main campuses, St. Mary’s and Highland. Also provided is coverage for a number of rural hospitals during time periods when onsite radiology services are absent. Kumha adds, “With the new system, we are able to provide service 24/7 for these locations. This has been extremely beneficial and follows Christus Schumpert’s mission of extending state-of-the-art care to underserved areas.” “With Web-based technology, doctors can read films anywhere using a standard PC and an Internet connection, while taking advantage of all of Algotec’s advanced features, which make the Web viewer nothing short of a primary diagnostic workstation” explained Kumha. “That flexibility and function is a big plus.” With 12 staff radiologists, Christus Schumpert provides over 175,000 radiology examinations annually. It is a local affiliate of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Dallas), selected for its high standards in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Algotec system covers all digital modalities, from CT and open MRI to PET. “As the leader in our geographic area, Christus Schumpert is committed to remaining in the forefront of technology, and our new Algotec System plays an important role in furthering that goal,” said Kumha.
